Buffalo is a sports crazed city, which they prove by supporting two major sports teams (Bills and Sabres), in a city with a population under 300,000. The city has continued to support both teams even though they are aching for a championship in either sport. The Buffalo Bills began competitive play in 1960 and have not been able to win a Super Bowl for the city, even after making it to the big game four years in a row from 1990-1993. The Sabres began play just a decade later in 1970 and although they’ve made it to the finals 3 times they also have failed to win the Stanley Cup on each of those occasions. The Sabres are in a rebuild phase, but the silver lining for the city of Buffalo may be that the Bills finally have a franchise quarterback in Josh Allen, and look like they will be a Super Bowl contender for the foreseeable future. One thing is for sure: the city of Buffalo continues to believe in both teams through the ups and downs.

Sports betting has gained a great deal of popularity in Buffalo over the past decade with residents feeling increasingly comfortable betting on sports online through sites like BetOnline.ag or SportsBetting.ag, both of which I will outline below. On this page I will also shed some light on the legality of sports betting in New York State and also look the land based locations in and around Buffalo where you can place horse racing wagers.

Is Sports Betting Legal In Buffalo?

The easiest way to answer this question is in two parts…

We would like to show you a description here but the site won’t allow us. Www.bodog.com is operated by Connaught Media B.V., a company incorporated in Curacao under registration number 145098, located at address Kaya Richard J. Beaujon Z/N, PO Box 6248, Curacao. #1. Running a Sports Betting Operation is Illegal

It is not legal to run a sportsbook in the state of New York. This applies to both land based and online betting sites operating within the State.

#2. Placing Bets Through Offshore Sportsbooks Is Allowed

While it’s illegal to operate a betting site in New York, it is NOT illegal for residents to join and place bets through an offshore betting site. These sites, like the two I recommend below, are licensed and regulated outside of the United States, which enables them to offer their services to American residents.

Best Sportsbooks for Buffalo Residents

The following two sportsbooks are the most popular and reputable betting sites used by New York residents. I strongly suggest placing your sports bets through one of these two sportsbooks if you reside in Buffalo.

BetOnline.ag is our top rated site for New York players. They primarily cater to the American market and this focus allows them to build a betting platform that meets the needs of the typical American bettor from a customer service, bet offerings and deposit/withdrawal options standpoint.

While attending college, Nick wrestled at the University of Wisconsin from 2000–2002. He then began training with coach Dave Strasser at Dave Strasser’s Freestyle Academy in Kenosha, Wisconsin. While there, he trained with manager Pat O'Malley, Ron Faircloth, Nick Agallar, and Brian Geraghty.[2] In 2005, Nick moved to attend the University of Minnesota Law School. He began training under coach Greg Nelson at Minnesota Martial Arts Academy. Nelson is closely affiliated with Erik Paulson, founder of Combat Submission Wrestling.[3]While there, Nick trained with fighters Sean Sherk, Brock Lesnar, Brock Larson, Nik Lentz, Derrick Noble, Paul Bradley, and Kaitlin Young.[4][5]

Mixed martial arts career[edit]

UFC[edit]

He made his UFC debut at UFC 56 where he defeated Keith Wisniewski. He returned to the UFC on April 15, 2006, where he lost against the highly ranked and seasoned judoka Karo Parisyan at UFC 59.

Bodog Fight[edit]

Following his fights in the UFC, and after three warm-up fights with smaller organizations, Thompson signed with Bodog Fight, a former MMA organisation. After cutting through three Bodog opponents, Thompson was offered his title fight with Eddie Alvarez, a previously undefeated fighter. After winning his fight against Alvarez on April 14, 2007, Thompson has since defended his title twice.[1]

World Victory Road[edit]

Nick's final title defense against John Troyer was the last fight on his contract with Bodog.[6]Rumors of his intent to sign with World Victory Road were confirmed with his addition to the organization's March 3, 2008 inaugural Sengoku show. Nick was scheduled to face Fabricio Monteiro in his debut.[7] He won this debut against Monteiro via three-round unanimous decision.[1]

EliteXC[edit]

Nick fought Jake Shields on July 26, 2008 for the newly created EliteXC Welterweight title, losing via submission in the first round.

Strikeforce[edit]

On February 25, 2009 in a radio interview, Thompson confirmed that he has signed on with California-based Mixed Martial Arts promotion Strikeforce. Thomson stated in his interview that he could be fighting as early as April 11, 2009.[8]

Shine Fights[edit]

Nick signed a multi-fight deal with upstart, Ohio and Florida based promotion, Shine Fights. Before even making his debut, he was requested to a new deal.[9]

Ultimate Glory[edit]

Nick was supposed to fight Siyar Bahadurzada at Ultimate Glory 12 on Oct. 16th, 2010 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, but had to pull out at the last minute due to an injury. He was replaced by Derrick Noble.
